New Design Series Frogs and Chameleons of South Africa

The Cape Dwarf Chameleon and the Forest Tree Frog are the first of the latest series of images that depart from ENTO Ceramics’ well established insect theme. These new decals celebrate secretive and rarely depicted creatures, the reptiles and amphibians of our region. Southern Africa is home to about 400 species of snakes, chameleons, lizards and tortoises, many of which occur here and nowhere else in the world. Chameleons were an obvious choice to figure from amongst these because of their unique and fascinating features. Most obvious of these are their protruding, separately roving eyes and their prehensile tail used to balance and climb. Unlike other lizards they possess a telescopic tongue which shoots out like greased lightning to trap insects on its sticky tip. Then of course is their ability to change colour to blend in with their surroundings.

We have nearly 100 different kinds of frogs in South Africa and the tree frogs are amongst the most beautiful and colourful. They possess large bulging eyes and have long toes used to cling to twigs or branches.
